Abruzzo, land of parks, is also called the Green Region of Europe. There are in fact three National Parks, a Regional Park and 38 between oasis and regional reserves. In total protected areas in Abruzzo represent about 30% of the entire region. Natural landscapes are so different: from the vast karst plains of the Gran Sasso to the main highlands; by deep canyons of the Maiella to the extensive forests of Laga; from the high pastures to the wild rocky areas; and even waterfalls caves and even a glacier, the Calderone, the only one in the Apennines and in the the southernmost of Europe.
